How to create an appealing profile on AuPairWorld

Your personal profile serves as your calling card. It presents the only information other users have about you. Therefore, you should take your time to create a profile which is truly in line with your individual character and personality. That's why we wish to give you a few useful tips on how to create an appealing profile.

Tips for au pairs

Your texts should contain a description of yourself and your motivation for becoming an au pair. Do not forget to include your hobbies and interests. Try to include the answers to the following questions:

  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  • What is the age range of the children you wish to care for?
  • For how long do you wish to stay?
  • How do you envisage living with your host family?
  • Do you wish to be fully integrated into your host family or would you prefer to spend your free time more independently?
  • What are the tasks you are prepared to take on?
  • Do you have a special diet (vegetarian, allergies)?
  • Do you already have childcare experience?

If possible, write your texts in the official language of your chosen host country, even if you consider yourself to only have a basic knowledge of this language. We recommend you to write simple and easy sentences. You can also write your text in various languages if you wish. Golden rule is: always be honest and authentic!

Pictures are worth a thousand words so upload some of you, with your family, taking care of children, or travelling, performing a hobby, etc.

Add references from previous host families, and language or first-aid certificates. You will find this section under "edit texts" in your profile.

Upload a video to introduce yourself and show what your language level is like.

Tips for host families

Your texts should describe your family, interests and hobbies. Make them simple and straight forward! This will also help the au pairs understand you better as their language skills may not be perfect yet. Writing your texts in several different languages also offers a great advantage.

Express your expectations towards your future au pair:

  • What are the tasks that they will take on initially, for what period will they be staying with you and what should they expect while working for your family?
  • What can you offer your au pair? How and where will you accommodate them?
  • Where can they participate in a language course? How and where can the au pair reach shops or cinemas?
  • What are the au pair's working hours and free time during the day and in the evening?
  • How do you envisage living with your au pair?
  • Do you wish to have a close, familiar relationship with your au pair or should they spend their free time more independently?
  • Is there something about your children that the au pair should know? (allergies, special needs, etc.)

Pictures of the whole family, your daily routine, hobbies, your house or the au pair bedroom will help au pairs to know you better.

If you are a Premium Member, you will be able to add references from previous au pairs. You can do it in the section "edit texts" in your profile.

Being Premium, you can upload a video as well to introduce the whole family in a more lively way.
