What do you need to be an au pair in Belgium?
- You are between 18 and 25 years old (up to 30 years old for EU citizens).
- You are unmarried and have no children.
- You have never had a work permit before in Belgium.
- You have a basic knowledge of either Dutch, French or German (depending on the region where you want to go).
- You have a school-leaving qualification which allows you to attend university or can you prove that you attended school up to the age of 17.
- You can cover the expenses of your au pair stay and your return trip.

What do you need to be a host family in Belgium?

- Your future au pair will have have an individual bedroom and a key to your home.
- Your au pair should help with childcare and will be treated as a member of the family.
- You speak Dutch, French or German in your daily family life.
- You are prepared to give your au pair sufficient time to participate in a language course.
- You have a different nationality from your au pair.
- You will be able to cover the costs arising from an au pair stay.
* In Wallonia, if the host family has a child under 5 years old, they must provide proof that childcare arrangements have been made for that child during the au pair’s stay or until the child turns 5 years old.
