Information for au pairs from the EU

Are you from an EU or EFTA state? Have you already done the Quick Check? On this page, formalities are explained to you step by step.

Step 1: Check the validity of your passport

Make sure that you hold a valid passport or identity card before planning your trip. As an EU or EFTA citizen, you do not need an entry visa to come to Belgium.

Step 2: Register with the municipality of your host family

As an EU or EFTA citizen, you do not need a residence permit in Belgium but you do have to register with the municipality of your host family upon your arrival if you wish to stay longer than three months. Do not forget to take your passport or identity card with you. Please note that you may not undertake any other paid work during your au pair stay in Belgium.

We are continually researching and updating our host country information, but cannot guarantee that all material provided is complete and correct. If you notice gaps or inaccuracies, we would like to hear from you.
