A video call helps you get to know each other better, discuss any questions you may have and find out whether you'd like to arrange an au pair stay together. You can schedule and have your video call directly through AuPairWorld.
Why should I have a video call?
A video call gives you the opportunity to get to know each other better and see whether your expectations align. Take the time to connect before deciding whether you'd like to arrange an au pair stay together.
You can already discuss many important questions through chat, but a video call gives you a more personal impression of each other.
Use the conversation to talk about things like your daily routines, the au pair's responsibilities, working hours, expectations and what living together would be like.
Good to know:
You don't have to make a decision immediately after a video call. If you still have questions or would like to get to know each other better, you can always arrange another call.
How do I arrange a video call?
You can suggest a video call directly through your contact on AuPairWorld. You can propose up to three possible dates and times, and the other person can then choose the option that works best for them.
- Select “Suggest video call”.
- Suggest up to three possible dates and times.
- The other person will see the suggested times in their own time zone and can choose one.
- Once a time has been selected, the video call will be scheduled for both of you.
As long as no time has been selected, you can withdraw your proposal.
Do I need to consider different time zones?
No. AuPairWorld automatically takes your different time zones into account and displays the suggested times in each person's local time.
If you and your potential au pair or host family live in different time zones, you don't need to convert the times yourself. When scheduling a video call, AuPairWorld shows you what time it will be for the other person.
However, it's still important to choose a time that works well for both of you. AuPairWorld will let you know if a suggested time is particularly early or late for the other person.
Where does the video call take place?
The video call takes place directly on AuPairWorld. At the scheduled time, you can start the call through your contact on the platform.
You don't need to use an external video calling service. AuPairWorld provides the video call feature directly on the platform.
You'll receive a reminder before your scheduled call. You can start the call shortly before the agreed time.
Do I need a Google Meet, Zoom or WhatsApp link?
No. You don't need an external link to have a video call on AuPairWorld. However, you can optionally add a backup link when scheduling your call.
Video calls normally take place directly on AuPairWorld. You can also add a link to an external service, such as Google Meet or WhatsApp, as a backup.
You can use this link if you experience technical connection issues during your video call on AuPairWorld.
What happens if I can't make any of the suggested times?
If none of the suggested times work for you, you don't have to choose one. The proposal can also be withdrawn as long as no time has been confirmed.
Discuss your availability with each other and choose a time that works for both of you. AuPairWorld automatically takes different time zones into account, so you can see what time it will be for the other person.
What happens after the video call?
After the video call, it's up to you to decide what happens next. You can continue getting to know each other or, if you're both ready, take the next step towards a placement.
Having a video call doesn't mean you have to make a decision about each other straight away.
If you can both imagine arranging an au pair stay together, the next step is to propose a placement. This is where you'll confirm important details such as the length of stay, pocket money and working hours.
Take your time to review these details and discuss any outstanding questions before confirming the placement.
