If you're interested in a profile, you can send a contact request. A conversation can only begin once the other person accepts your request. This way, you both decide who you'd like to get to know better.

How does a contact request work?

If you're interested in a profile, you can send a contact request. Once the other person accepts your request, you'll be notified and can start chatting.

Sending a contact request lets the other person or family know that you'd like to get to know them.

The other person can accept or decline your request. If they accept, you can continue getting to know each other through the chat feature.

Host families need an active Premium Membership to send contact requests to au pairs and use the chat feature.

What happens when I receive a contact request?

When you receive a contact request, it's up to you to decide whether you'd like to connect with the other person. You can either accept or decline the request.

If you accept the request, you'll be connected and can get to know each other through the chat feature.

If you decline the request, you won't be connected and won't be able to chat with each other.

Why can't I send a message directly?

You can only exchange messages once a contact request has been accepted. This ensures that conversations only begin between au pairs and host families who are interested in getting to know each other.

AuPairWorld separates the initial contact request from the conversation itself. First, one person shows interest by sending a contact request. The chat becomes available once the other person accepts the request.

Before you can use the chat feature, you must also successfully verify your identity.

This helps reduce unwanted messages and gives you control over who you start conversations with.

How do I know if a contact request has been accepted?

You'll be notified as soon as your contact request is accepted. You can then find the contact in your overview and can start a conversation.

How do I write a good first message?

A personal first message makes it easier to start getting to know each other. Try referring to something in the other person's profile and briefly explain why you'd like to connect.

For example, you could mention:

  • Something that caught your attention in their profile
  • Interests or expectations you have in common
  • What else you'd like to know about the au pair or host family

Tip:

Try to avoid generic messages like “Hello” or “Are you interested?” A personalised message gives the other person a good starting point for the conversation.

What happens if I decline a contact request?

If you're not interested in getting to know someone who has sent you a contact request, you can decline it. The contact request will then be permanently removed.

Once you decline a contact request, it will disappear and cannot be restored.

This is different from selecting “Hide profile” in your suggestions, which simply hides a profile from your view.

Do contact requests expire?

No. Contact requests don't expire automatically. They remain open until they're accepted or declined.
