From the very first moment I had fallen in love with the island

Au pair Ita had a great time as an au pair in Spain, in particular on the Canarian island of Lanzarote, where she felt "adopted" by the family and even learnt how to surf.

AuPairWorld helped me find a welcoming host family on Lanzarote

My name is Ita and I would like to share my wonderful au pair experience that took place in June 2015. Here I stayed with a kind family on Lanzarote. We got in contact through AuPairWorld and after a few talks on skype I felt convinced that they were the family for me. None of us had any experiences with being or having an au pair but they were really kind and welcoming so it was quite easy to get in to a good daily rhythm.

I was glad to have found a great new family for a defined period of time

My job was to look after the two girls – mainly in the afternoons and evenings. They were 6 and 1,5 years old. I imagine that it must have been weird for them with a complete stranger living in their house from one day to another. But they quickly got used to me and we really had a great time together. The eldest girl loved to play all sorts of games and was very clever, too. Out of all the times we played a board game I don’t recall winning once. The youngest girl had just learnt to walk when I came. She was a really curious and happy little toddler who loved to explore everything – especially water and cats. When the girls had gone to bed the parents and I would always eat dinner together and talk about the day. This really meant a lot to me and it felt really nice to be “adopted” into their family like that.

From the very first moment I had fallen in love with this island

Right from the start I was really impressed with the wonderful landscape of Lanzarote. The countless volcanos, the deep blue sea, and the big wine area La Geria was like nothing I had ever seen before.
The family lived in La Geria where I often went running and biking. I often went to Porto del Carmen which is a beautiful town by the sea. Here I spent a lot of time on the exotic beaches and even tried diving once. The town also had numerous cafés and a big shopping mall.
Once in a while I went to Famara Beach. Here I learnt surfing and met some really nice people.
It was truly a lovely time I spent with that family on Lanzarote and I will recommend anyone to try such an experience!
