My family was the best host family ever

After her experience in London (UK), Ana from Spain writes: "I have been keeping contact with my host family, I tell them how the last year of my English degree is going, and they tell me how the other members of the family are getting on."

Last year was my 3rd course at university. I am doing a degree in teacher training and I decided that I want to major in English as well.

They decided to offer me the job

That's why I decided to go abroad last summer. I started looking for families which was difficult in the beginning. I found some that I liked but they decided to host other au pairs. But one day a family applied to me! What a surprise! We spoke for a month and then they decided to offer me the job.

I had never left my home for more than 15 days

I booked the flight for the last days of June (29th June). The night before, I couldn't sleep. I was scared and nervous because I had never left my home for more than 15 days in the past and I was going to be staying abroad for 2 and a half months! Lucy, the girl I looked after, was a such a good girl. Sometimes we had little arguments because she was tired of school but I think that's pretty normal. When we got used to each other we started enjoying our summer together.

It is an experience I will never forget

I improved so much, although unfortunately I spend my weekends clubbing with Spanish people. I remember my first week there being so difficult because I missed by family so much! England is really cold as well! But now I can say that it is an experience I will never forget. Lucy and I used to go to London for picnics, watch films and bounced on the trampoline together.

I recommend au pairing to everyone

My family was the best host family ever: They helped me a lot, for example they repeated things more than twice and gave me lots of advice. I even went to Wales with them for a week. I have stayed in touch with them: I tell them about how the last year of my English degree is going and they tell me how the other members of the family are getting on. I recommend au pairing to everyone, it's something you'll never forget.
