What do you need to be an au pair in New Zealand?

  • You are between 18 and 30 years old.
  • You are unmarried and have no children.
  • You have a good knowledge of English.
  • You have at least 4,200 NZD on your account and can afford the travel costs.
  • You have not been to New Zealand before on a Worlking Holiday Visa.
  • You come from one of the following countries: Argentina, Australiaen, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong (HKSAR), Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Singapore , Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Turkey, Uruguay, USA, Vietnam.

Requirements for host families

Here's what you need to be a host family in New Zealand:

  • At least one child under 18 lives in your household.
  • Your au pair will have a room of his or her own while staying with you.
  • Your au pair should help with childcare and light housework.
  • You speak English on a daily basis in your household.
  • You do not have the same nationality as your au pair.
