Requirements for au pairs

Here's what you need to be an au pair in Sweden:

  • You are 18 - 30 years old.
  • You are single and have no children.
  • You want to stay with a Swedish family for a maximum of 12 months.
  • You are currently living in a country other than Sweden and are not a Swedish citizen.
  • You are interested in Swedish culture and have at least rudimentary knowledge of the Swedish language that you can demonstrate.
  • You have sufficient financial resources to pay for your trip to Sweden.

Requirements for host families

Here's what you need to be a host family in Sweden:

  • One or more children under 18 live in your household.
  • Your au pair should help take care of your children and will be treated as a full-fledged family member during the au pair stay (maximum duration: 12 months).
  • Your au pair will have a room of his or her own while staying with you.
  • You will help your au pair find a language course that fits with the working times in your family.
  • You speak Swedish in your everyday family life.
  • You are not related to your au pair and do not have the same nationality.
