Please note: The following steps apply if your au pair is a citizen of an EU, EFTA or EEA state and wishes to stay in Norway for more than three months.
Please click here if your au pair is a citizen from outside the EU, EFTA or EEA.
The au pair's identity card or passport should be valid for a couple of months after their arrival in Norway. Either of the documents is needed for step 2.
If your au pair wishes to stay in Norway for more than three months, they must register at the local police department. Prior to this, the au pair registers online at the Application Portal Norway. Afterwards, they must personally appear before the local police department or Service Centre for Foreign Workers.
Au pairs need a valid identity card or passport and a document confirming that they are financially independent and do not rely on state aid. The au pair contract you have signed with your au pair may serve as proof.
If your au pair meets the registration requirements, they will receive a registration certificate. It is free of charge and does not expire. Therefore, it does not need to be renewed.
