If your au pair is expected to stay in Ireland for more than 3 months, he/she will need to register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau. When registering with the immigration official, your au pair will need to appear in person at the Garda National Immigration Bureau (if you are in Dublin) or at the District Headquarters in other Garda Districts.
He/she will need to provide some information and evidence on his/her status, such as: details of when, where and how he/she arrived in Ireland, a photo and the current address in Ireland. He/she should also bring along his/her passport and documentation supporting the residence permit.
Following successful registration, your au pair will be issued with an Immigration Certificate of Registration, also known as a GNIB card. It costs 150 €.

Your au pair will need to apply for a PPS Number.
The Department of Social Protection will issue a PPS Number. Please contact the Social Welfare Local Office for more detailed information.
