What do you need to be an au pair in Austria?

EU and EFTA citizens

  • You are between 18 und 27 years old.
  • You would like to improve your knowledge of German and learn about Austrian culture.
  • You have a basic knowledge of German and would like to improve it.
  • You are unmarried and have no children.
  • You can pay for your travel to Austria.

Citizens of all other countries

  • You are between 18 und 27 years old.
  • You would like to improve your knowledge of German and learn about Austrian culture.
  • You have a basic knowledge of German and would like to improve it.
  • You are unmarried and have no children.
  • You can pay for your travel to Austria.
  • You would like to work as an au pair in Austria for at least 6 months and not more than 12 months.
  • In the last 5 years you have not worked for more than one year as an au pair in Austria.

What you need to be a host family in Austria:

  • At least one child under 18 is living in your household.
  • You can provide your au pair with her/his own room.
  • You are looking for a young person to join your family on a temporary basis and help with childcare and light housework.
  • You speak German in your daily family life.
  • You will make it possible for your au pair to attend a language course.
